Tony Romo Rookie Card
Tony Romo Rookie Card. From young gun, to lead Cowboy.
Tony Romo is well respected around the NFL fraternity. In his 4 years as starting quarterback he has led the Dallas Cowboys to 3 playoff appearances, and been named to 2 pro-bowls. However it is the number 1 that weights down Romo more than any other. 1 playoff victory as starting quarterback (2010 playoff wild-card victory over the Philadelphia Eagles). His other playoff appearances have been less than memorable, suffering a divisional round defeat against the eventual Super Bowl Champion New York Giants in 2008, and botching the hold on a potential game-winning field goal against the Seattle Seahawks in his first ever playoff game in 2007.

Hold the remarks about his dating life, Jessica Simpson and the infamous excursion to Cabo, Tony Romo is an outstanding quarterback. Romo, a Wisconsin native, is compared by many to the gun-slinging style of Brett Favre. Romo idolized Favre growing up, but took a much quieter road to professional football than the Packers (and now Vikings) legend.
Romo went to Division I-AA Eastern Illinois, and during his sophomore season was second in the nation in passing efficiency. His accolades in college included being given the Walter Payton Award, the honor given to the best college football player at Division I-AA level. But apart from standout numbers, a strong throwing arm, and pinpoint accuracy, Romo went undrafted in 2003.
Dallas Cowboys Offensive Coordinator Sean Payton saw potential in the young Romo, who not only assured Romo that there would be a place for him in the NFL, but saw a ton of potential. After Payton was hired as head coach by the New Orleans Saints in 2006, he made a strong push to make a trade for Tony Romo, but Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had been impressed by Romo and was unwilling to part with Romo for anything less than a 2nd or 1st round draft pick in return.
Thus, the stage was set for him to take over as starting quarterback for the Cowboys, and he has never looked back. Since then, Romo has been to the Pro Bowl in 2006 and 2007, and has crushed many long-standing Cowboy records including TD’s in a season, passing yards in a season, completions in a season, and games with over 300 yards passing in his career.
While many will be quick to point out the negatives, the Tony Romo Rookie Card already stands to be considered one of the greatest in a line of impressive Dallas Quarterbacks. Being great in Dallas gives Romo the opportunity to be mentioned alongside of Hall of Fame Quarterbacks Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach. Romo may not have the playoff success just yet, but with the numbers he is consistently putting up it is only a matter of time before that happens as well.
