Jones-Drew had arguably his best season in the NFL this past year, notching 15 rushing touchdowns and one touchdown reception.  Fantasy owners across the nation can’t argue with someone who is a guaranteed touchdown every week, but it is the Jacksonville Jaguars front office that is the most pleased with his production.

What began as a tag-team effort with Jacksonville Jaguar great Fred Taylor, Jones-Drew has emerged as the Jaguars best player and in doing so has earned the respect of the organization.  Jaguars General Manager  Gene Smith recently told the Florida Times-Union that their offense will focus more on the run in the 2010 season, giving Jones-Drew an even greater role than the one he has right now.

The mentality is, if Jones-Drew gets more carries, the better chance the Jaguars have to win.  Jones-Drew had 6 games in 2009 where he had 16 carriers or fewer, and the Jacksonville front office can only hope they get that number higher for their best backfield talent.

Jones-Drew established himself immediately his rookie season, setting the bar high for himself by finding the end-zone 16 times through rushing, receiving, and special teams.  But more recently Jones-Drew is aiming to become the featured running back for the Jaguars, and his 2009 campaign made a strong case.  He accumulated 1391 rushing yards in 2009, almost 500 yards more than his previous high of 941 during his rookie season.

At the NFL level, the demand is for both efficiency and reliability.  Even while gaining a new career high in rushing yards, Jones-Drew remains one of the best backs in the NFL at protecting the ball, only losing 1 fumble each year for the past 4 seasons.

Jones-Drew hopes to bring the Jaguars back into the playoff discussion.  When asked on the Scott Van Pelt Show on ESPN Radio how it feels to miss the playoffs the past 2 seasons he replied “horrible.”  Since experiencing the thrill of the NFL playoffs his first year, Jones-Drew cannot wait for a chance to get back.
