Is Kurt Warner Hall of Fame Material?
Kurt Warner Hall of Fame?
The rise of the Arizona Cardinals to the top of the NFC West has largely been because Kurt Warner has had a fantastic year. Warner in a little over a half of a season has thrown for 19 tds and only 6 interceptions and looking much like the old quarterback that he was when he was in St. Louis. Warner has quietly compiled two very good seasons in Arizona. Last year he threw 27 touchdowns and ranked as one of the NFL best quarterbacks in the last half of the season.
This resurgance has sparked a debate - Is Kurt Warner Hall of Fame Material? Looking at it objectively it seems that it is too early to tell. In his first real campaign in 1999, Warner exploded onto the scene and threw for 41 touchdowns and 4600 yards passing. He followed that up in 2001 with 36 tochdowns and 4800 yards passing and looked very much the part of a Hall of Fame quarterback. He compiled a league MVP, 3 time pro bowl selection, 2 time all pro, and a superbowl MVP. Then part two of his career was fairly lousy. While with the Giants and early on as a Cardinal his statistics and game play was quite frankly horrible. Warner was noted much more for fumbling than touchdowns.
Which leads us to now, his career is back on track and he is once again throwing touchdowns at a very high pace. My guess is if he can have 1-2 more seasons like the current - Kurt Warner will end up in the Hall of Fame. If this is his last great year, he will struggle to votes needed to get in. However, it has been great to see this player have a great season once again.
