Greatest Superbowl Rookie Performances – Devin Hester

Just two years ago, a relatively unknown player broke into the NFL and created absolute havoc for special teams coaches around the NFL. Devin Hester in his rookie season virtually broke all records that existed for a return specialist. Returning an unbelievable 6 return touchdowns in his rookie season. It is unusual for a player to get two touchdowns in a season, but 6 is unheard of. Consider the fact in only three years in the NFL he already holds the record for most return touchdowns by any player in the history of the NFL.

As a rookie, Hester had a large say in the Bears reaching the Superbowl. By himself changed so many games for the Chicago Bears that season that he should be given much of the credit for their success. The essentially took a baseball approach to football - defense up the middle and great pitching. The Bears did it with great defense and great return games - setting up the offense with very short fields to work with.

Well the hype was on before the superbowl, can the Colts contain Devin Hester and the Chicago return game. On the opening play the Colts kicked the ball deep to Hester, and 92 yards later the Bears were on the board. The Colts learned their lesson and did not kick to Devin Hester the rest of the game, but the hype and then the result make it a great rookie performance in the superbowl.
