Felix Jones has turned into the big play threat that the Dallas Cowboys have been long looking for. The Felix Jones Rookie Card might be that special card that you have been looking for.

Felix Jones is used to being part of a multi-faceted running attack. Since playing football at the University of Arkansas, Jones was in an understudy role behind Heisman Trophy runner-up Darren McFadden. But since playing second-tier to McFadden, it is Felix Jones who is out to make a name for himself in the NFL.

It may not be easy with the kind of playing time the Dallas Cowboys running backs are having. In addition to sharing carries with Marion Barber and Tashard Choice, Jones has to fight with the Cowboys passing attack which takes away from his playing time. Fortunately for Jones, the Dallas coaching staff has done a good job in balancing both the running game and the passing game to keep defenses off balance.

But Jones isn’t just the kind of running back that is meant to keep defenses off balance. Felix Jones is the kind of big play threat that can score from any position on the field. Jones has been able to spurt off longer runs with much fewer carries than the first-string running back Barber, and they have come at decisive moments as well.

In Week 17 with the NFC East title on the line, Jones broke through the Eagles defensive line for a 49 yard touchdown run. The following week, it was the Dallas vs. Philadelphia rematch in the wild-card round of the playoffs, once again at Texas Stadium. Once again, it was Felix Jones knifing through the Philadelphia defense to the tune of 148 yards including at 73 yard run to pay dirt.

Jones dominance at the climax of the year comes at a time when the Dallas faithful question whether their team can finally make some noise in the playoffs. This kind of performance by Jones towards the peak of the season, and especially in the playoffs has many in Dallas questioning if Jones should indeed take the reigns of the tailback position over from Barber. A report from www.DallasNews.com confirms the sentiment that many in Dallas have grown to realize, that it is time to make a switch.

The emergence of Felix Jones, and the Cowboys ending their 13 year playoff drought are of little coincidence. Jones was the most consistent player on the field at the end of the year, and may be the most pivotal star the Cowboys have seen in a long time. Jones is due to take on a greater role, and in doing so, the Felix Jones Rookie Card will take on even greater value.

Calvin Johnson was picked up by the Lions in the 2007 NFL Draft, and it puzzled many Detroit fans as to why on earth they would waste another first round pick on a receiver. The past receivers drafted under former Lions President and GM Matt Millen had turned out to be major busts. Former Michigan State receiver Charles Rogers was ranked as the #1 biggest wide-receiver bust in the past 20 years, and that’s not even mentioning the disappointment with former USC Trojan Mike Williams. So for Detroit to again draft a receiver it seemed like just another idiotic move by the Lions front office.

In 2007 it looked like Johnson might fit the mold as another bust as he barely averaged 3 receptions a game. However, Calvin Johnson is a different breed. While working with over 3 different quarterbacks in the past 3 seasons, Johnson has helped give the Lions passing attack a huge boost.

This former Blitnikoff Award winner has incredible physical tools that he would soon utilize as the Detroit Lions could finally say they drafted a true professional. In 2008 he had his breakout season and showed that he isn’t going to be the type of person to let his potential go unfulfilled. Johnson caught 78 passes in 2008 while gaining 1331 receiving yards and being voted as a Pro-Bowl alternate.

He was expected to have another solid year in 2009 with 1st pick Matthew Stafford at quarterback. They developed some chemistry over the course of the season, but Detroit just never really got going as a team. The Lions record of futility has continued. While they were able to finally get a victory over the St. Louis Rams, their overall record was still a terrible 2-14, giving them only 2 wins in the past 2 seasons. To make matters worse, their win over the Cleveland Browns was made possible only by a pass interference call in the end-zone with no time remaining, giving the Lions an untimed down to score a touchdown.

But while the Detroit organization struggles to even live up to just that, being an organization, it is no question that it was the right decision to draft Calvin Johnson. If he and Stafford can be healthy and mature for the next few seasons, the sky is the limit. The sky is the limit for the Calvin Johnson Rookie Card, if they can finally figure out a way to consistently win in Detroit.

But the story of Ray Rice isn’t going to be the tragedies in his life, but how he has overcome those tragedies and turned his life into a triumph.

Ray Rice and Rutgers will forever by synonymous even though Rice only spent 3 seasons sporting on the scarlet red uniform. He was able to score 35 career rushing touchdowns in college, and after his junior season was in the discussion for the Heisman Award as the best player in the country.

A lot to expect for a 5’8 running back who is featured for a Rutgers team that was scarcely heard of before the arrival of Rice in 2005. But this particular Scarlet Knight isn’t one to focus on the negatives, but to keep chopping wood all the way to victory.

That sort of perseverance is paying off.

Rice wasted no time on making his mark in the NFL postseason, when on the first play of scrimmage in the Ravens Wild-Card game against the New England Patriots, he scampered to the end-zone for an 83 yard touchdown run. With many experts viewing Rice as the central catalyst of the Ravens offense, Baltimore was able to annihilate the Patriots by a score of 33-14 in Gillette Stadium.

It was a victory that established Rice as one of the best running-backs in the NFL, finishing with 159 yards and 2 touchdowns, leaving the Patriots dynasty helpless the entire game. Hall of Fame shoe-ins Tom Brady and Bill Bellichek replied to the media the old “give them a lot of credit” line, as they were left to ponder exactly how they were so thoroughly dominated.

Well, Ray Rice might have some idea.

In 2009 he was accumulated over 2000 total yards, which helped Rice become featured in his the 2010 Pro-Bowl as the AFC’s 3rd rusher. Personal statistics aside, Rice has been known to take time out of his busy NFL schedule to visit his mothers pre-school where she helps mentally and physically challenged kids. Rice has been trained to stick to a strict schedule since college and get plenty of sleep to let his body recover.

It’s a good thing too. Ray Rice’s body will need to rest in the off-season before he will look to build on an already impressive season where he led his team to a playoff win, and an NFL Pro-Bowl appearance. The Ray Rice Rookie Card is a card of one of the good guys, as well as an awfully good NFL running back.

Desean Jackson is in an elite category. How many 2nd year players can be said to be the cornerstone of their respective franchise. Over the past couple seasons, that is exactly what Jackson has become, and another reason why the Desean Jackson Rookie Card is one you would have to be insane to pass up.

Desean Jackson made as instant of an impact as a rookie could possibly have in 2008, tallying over 200 all purpose yards, an NFL rookie record for a wide-receiver. While gaining over 100 yards receiving in his opening start, he also had an instant impact as a return man.

This kind of versatility has given Jackson the opportunity to succeed as the Eagles top receiver and top return man.

In 2009 it was his intention to do just that.

Desean Jackson was one of the best in his position of punt returning, averaging over 15 yards per return. In addition to that, he was the Eagles primary weapon on offense. Of all of NFL receivers with at least 50 catches in the 2009 season, Jackson was easily the best big play target, averaging 18.6 yards per reception.

Jackson has shown an amazing propensity to take a small receiver screen into an enormous gain, and his speed is one of the main reasons. NFL receiving great Jerry Rice called Jackson “the fastest receiver I have ever seen,” and many of the Philadelphia Eagles opponents will admit the same.

Desean Jackson is excited about the strides he has already made, as well as what the future holds for him. Because of his rookie contract, he is making only 385,000 dollars a year, despite being the cornerstone of the Philadelphia Eagles franchise. He has made it no secret that he would like a new contract, but it doesn’t look likely until he finishes his current one.

Nevertheless, Jackson is scheduled for an enormous pay raise once his current contract is completed. His quickness, toughness, and mind for the game made him a nightmare for every opposing defense, and if his productivity continues it is no question he will be receiving a huge pay day in the not so distant future.

He was awarded for his 2009 efforts with a trip to the Pro-Bowl where he did not disappoint. Jackson ended the night with 6 catches for 101 yards and 2 touchdowns, flexing a little muscle in his case to seek a pay raise.

As Desean Jacksons value has sky-rocketed in the past 2 years, so has the value of the Desean Jackson Rookie Card. Jackson figures to be worth a lot of money in free agency one day. That is, unless Philadelphia awards him with a hefty contract extension before he ever gets to that point.

Texans quarterback Matt Schaub has recognized Johnson as his go-to man, and this combo has given the Houston Texans offense a huge boost. Their chemistry has developed into a dynamic combination.

But Johnson was initially supposed to be the prime target of David Carr, and he was. In 2004 Andre Johnson elevated his game from budding talent, to outstanding receiver. In doing so, Johnson was elected to his first Pro-Bowl in 2004 in only his 2nd season in the NFL.

After an injury-riddled season in 2005, Andre Johnson had a breakout season in 2006, entering his name into the discussion as one of the NFL’s best with a league high 103 receptions. He would go on to career high 115 receptions in 2008, and this past season elevated his game again, with a new career high 9 touchdown receptions.

Andre Johnson is back in Miami for the Pro-Bowl, the same place where he showed promise as an outstanding wide-out for the Miami Hurricanes, and also where he helped the Texans beat the Dolphins with another touchdown reception during the Texans 4 game winning streak to close out the season.

Johnson is actually in Miami for more than just being recognized as one of the games best, but to fulfill a promise to his mother to complete his undergraduate degree at the University of Miami. His commitment to earn his degree 7 years into his career speaks a lot of his character. He intends to use his degree to coach high-school kids from underprivileged backgrounds on how to play the game.

Johnson remains committed to the Houston Texans, even as the team has gone through some trying times as they seek to attain their first playoff birth. Johnson has said he believes in the organization, and hopes that they can put the pieces in place for the 2010 season that can help break through the playoff barrier and make a run at the Super Bowl. With Johnson and Schaub clicking the way they are (Schaub was recently named the 2010 Pro-Bowl MVP) then maybe that day is coming a lot sooner than people expect.

In the meantime, Johnson knows he must continue to stay hungry in spite of his individual success if the Texans are to make it to the playoffs. The Andre Johnson Rookie Card is one of a class act, a dominating receiver, and pretty soon a college graduate.

Jones-Drew had arguably his best season in the NFL this past year, notching 15 rushing touchdowns and one touchdown reception. Fantasy owners across the nation can’t argue with someone who is a guaranteed touchdown every week, but it is the Jacksonville Jaguars front office that is the most pleased with his production.

What began as a tag-team effort with Jacksonville Jaguar great Fred Taylor, Jones-Drew has emerged as the Jaguars best player and in doing so has earned the respect of the organization. Jaguars General Manager Gene Smith recently told the Florida Times-Union that their offense will focus more on the run in the 2010 season, giving Jones-Drew an even greater role than the one he has right now.

The mentality is, if Jones-Drew gets more carries, the better chance the Jaguars have to win. Jones-Drew had 6 games in 2009 where he had 16 carriers or fewer, and the Jacksonville front office can only hope they get that number higher for their best backfield talent.

Jones-Drew established himself immediately his rookie season, setting the bar high for himself by finding the end-zone 16 times through rushing, receiving, and special teams. But more recently Jones-Drew is aiming to become the featured running back for the Jaguars, and his 2009 campaign made a strong case. He accumulated 1391 rushing yards in 2009, almost 500 yards more than his previous high of 941 during his rookie season.

At the NFL level, the demand is for both efficiency and reliability. Even while gaining a new career high in rushing yards, Jones-Drew remains one of the best backs in the NFL at protecting the ball, only losing 1 fumble each year for the past 4 seasons.

Jones-Drew hopes to bring the Jaguars back into the playoff discussion. When asked on the Scott Van Pelt Show on ESPN Radio how it feels to miss the playoffs the past 2 seasons he replied “horrible.” Since experiencing the thrill of the NFL playoffs his first year, Jones-Drew cannot wait for a chance to get back.

The Maurice Jones-Drew Rookie Card is the card of an outstanding individual talent, but Jones-Drew has his sights set on bringing playoff football back to Jacksonville.

The University of Pittsburgh product is one of the most physical receivers in the league, where he may punish the opposition for yards after the catch and will never back down against the most physical cornerbacks in the NFL. In addition to his presence at 6’3 and over 215 pounds, Fitzgerald has breakaway speed and excellent hands. Most recently he was able to help the Arizona Cardinals to a wild-card weekend victory over the Green Bay Packers, where he caught 6 catches for 82 yards and 2 touchdowns despite being covered by the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year, Charles Woodson for most of the night.

If Larry Fitzgerald presents a match-up problem for the best defensive player in the league, then you can imagine just how effective of a career this receiver has. Some experts had seen it coming all along. Former Cardinals Head Coach Dennis Green had known Fitzgerald from his days as a Minnesota Vikings ball boy, but since committing to D-III Gustavus Adolphus College, Fitzgerald made the switch to Pitt, and has grown into one of the best wide receivers on the planet.

Decorated throughout college and so far in the NFL, Fitzgerald was recognized as the best player in college football after his 2nd season at Pittsburgh, being handed the Walter Camp Award. After barely losing to Oklahoma Sooner bust Jason White, Fitzgerald chose to make the leap to the NFL and has never looked back.

He has already made a visit to the NFL Pro Bowl game 4 times in his career, including being named the MVP of the 2009 Pro-Bowl game.

Prior to the Pro-Bowl, Fitzgerald was instrumental in the 2009 playoffs, where he broke Jerry Rice’s playoff records for receptions, yards, and touchdowns in the playoffs. He grabbed the potential game-winning touchdown pass, before Pittsburgh came back to win in the games final moments.

While the emergence of Fitzgerald has been helped by being lined up with another Pro-Bowl caliber wide-out in Anquan Boldin, there is no doubt that Fitzgerald will continue to thrive in the Arizona Cardinals offense even if Boldin is lost to free-agency. Even without Boldin in the playoff game against the Packers, Fitzgerald picked up the slack and helped the Cardinals rack up a record number of points against Green Bay’s #2 ranked defense.

The Larry Fitzgerald Rookie Card is a rare commodity, but possibly the best card of all wide-receivers based on Fitzgerald’s accomplished career. He has already carried his team to an NFC Championship, and hopes to continue to be a dominant force in the NFL for many years to come.

When a prodigy comes out of college that has all of the physical tools of the greatest NFL running backs, it is easy to dissect his running style and make comparisons. For Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, he just might be the running back that sets the standard for all future running backs to be measured.

The former Oklahoma Sooner entered the NFL in 2007 with unlimited expectations. The only question surrounding Peterson was how his body would hold up after suffering from injury problems in college.

So far, so good.

Peterson’s rookie season showed him wasting no time, as he dominated opponents on his way to 1341 rushing yards and winning the NFL’s Rookie of the Year Award. Amazingly enough, he cruised to over 1300 yards while still missing time due to an injury suffered in the Vikings shut out loss to the Green Bay Packers.

His decorated rookie seasons included him breaking the NFL record for most rushing yards in a single game, as he racked up 296 yards on 20 carries against the San Diego Chargers. This performance led many to believe they were viewing greatness, and the comparisons started to flood in. The punishing and powerful style of running by Earl Campbell, the elusive and low running style of Barry Sanders, the speed of Eric Dickerson.

The scary thing? All of these components combined into one player.

Adrian Peterson followed that rookie season by gaining 1,760 yards in his sophomore campaign. Forget the sophomore slump, Peterson became the focal point of the Vikings offense as he led his team into the playoffs.

In 2009, the Vikings offense had somewhat of a makeover as Brett Favre took over the reigns at quarterback, shifting much of the attention to the Vikings passing game. As a result, Peterson flourished in the category that matters the most, touchdowns. Peterson led the NFL in 2009 with 18 touchdowns in spite of his total carries being reduced significantly, 49 less than the 2008 season.

But his touchdown total shows just how balanced, and versatile of a player Peterson has become. Adrian Petersons Rookie Card is sure to grow in value as Peterson continues to mature. In the 2010 NFC Championship game, Peterson scored 3 touchdowns, but also managed to lose 2 fumbles. He will continue to grow, but already having the title of “rookie of the year” makes this card even stronger.

Phillip Rivers is the epitome of someone who needs to put his money where his mouth his. Put up, or shut up. Walk the talk.

Since coming into the league and stepping in as the leader of the Chargers passing attack, Phillip Rivers has been known for spouting his mouth off at opposing players, and containing a sensational delight for chatter. He confessed in an interview with FOX Sports that it is just part of his competitive nature, and so far it definitely has not hurt his career.

By the end of the 2009 season, despite the heartbreaking playoff loss to the New York Jets, Phillip Rivers has displayed plenty of reasons to follow up that chatter.

Try his career quarterback passer rating on for size. If you thought that Rivers wouldn’t shut up before he solidified his statistics, his 95.8 career passer rating is second all-time in NFL history to only Steve Young.

All-time? If that’s the case then maybe no one will be able to get Rivers to shut up.

But a passer rating isn’t everything. The true test of success in the NFL revolves around the team concept, and how successful the team is that he is directing. Enough said, his winning percentage at QB is .719, which is 2nd among active quarterbacks to only future NFL Hall of Fame QB Tom Brady.

How many wins do the San Diego Chargers have in the past 4 seasons? 49 combined wins for both the regular season and playoffs. An astonishing number for a 4th year starting quarterback who still has a bright future. His 2009 season was lauded as his best so far as a professional, while also sporting a 104.4 QB rating that proves that Rivers isn’t content with the status quo, but intends to keep improving his craft.

With that, Rivers knows that there is room for improvement, most especially with his postseason record. Phillip Rivers has recorded 2 very impressive wins over the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Playoffs, but the biggest disappointment is how the Chargers were unable to overcome the New York Jets in the 2010 AFC Divisional Round and set up a rematch with the Indianapolis Colts.

Needless to say, there was a collective relief in Indianapolis when the Jets knocked Phillip Rivers and the Chargers out of the playoffs. While the Chargers have failed to win the big game, their chances of making a Super Bowl run are very much alive with the emergence of Phillip Rivers.

The Philip Rivers rookie card is one that looks to grow stronger as he continues to build on his already successful career.

Rodgers had enormous shoes to fill following the quarterback controversy in Green Bay in the summer of 2008. The Green Bay Packers organization stood behind the young quarterback, even as one of the legends of the game in Brett Favre attempted to come back to Green Bay and reclaim his starting job. Thus, Rodgers had a whole lot of pressure on his shoulders to deliver success to the Packers.

From a statistical standpoint, that is exactly what Aaron Rodgers has done. He became the first quarterback in history to throw for over 4,000 yards in his first two seasons as a starting quarterback. Rodgers also led the Packers to a playoff appearance in the 2009 season. After starting off the year 4-4, Rodgers led one of the better passing attacks in all of football as Green Bay went 7-1 in their final 8 games of the season. Only a last second loss against Pittsburgh prevented them from closing out the year with 8 straight victories.

In their playoff game against the Arizona Cardinals, Rodgers got off to a slow start and terrible ending, throwing an interception on the first play from scrimmage, and fumbling the ball into the hands of Karlos Dansby in overtime who took it into the end zone for the game winning score. In spite of those two plays, Rodgers accumulated 4 touchdowns on 423 yards passing to lead the Packers from a 31-10 deficit to tie the game at 45, sending the game into overtime. Rodgers 423 passing yards set a new Green Bay Packers single game record in both regular season and playoffs, surpassing Lynne Dickey’s previous mark of 418 yards.

Even after a devastating loss, there is no question that this is Aaron Rodgers’ team. He has the respect of his teammates, the organization, and maybe most importantly he has the respect of Green Bay Packers fans.

An unlikely story for Rodgers, a junior college transfer who eventually became the starting quarterback for the University of California, he continues to make the best of an unconventional road to glory. Waiting for the opportune moment in college, and waiting in the shadow of Favre for three years, Rodgers patience is finally paying off.

The Aaron Rodgers rookie card is one that is sure to increase in value as he continues to improve.
