Rookie Football Card Collecting: Reasons Why – Part I

Many people ask me why do I still collect football cards, rookie football cards and why do I have a blog about this hobby.  Quite simply, I have been collecting rookie football cards for most of my life and I have seen the hobby transform itself from a pasttime to a major business.  Despite this I can think of many reasons why a young child should start this great hobby of collecting football cards. One of the negative aspects of the hobby is that the cost of the football cards have gone up making it more expensive to collect.  However, the quality of the cards have gone up substantially and the retail of the cards have risen much more than ever before.

This week I am going to give several reasons why it is still fun to collect football cards:

Team Affiliation

• This is a great way for today's youth to become connected with their favorite team and the great players of that team. Rookie football cards give young kids the opportunity to bond with their favorite player early on in their career and they can watch their career through their cards. Nothing was more important than getting a card of your favorite player when you were a child. I loved opening the pack of cards and seeing my hero Fran Tarkington.  Because the NFL is the most popular sport, it only makes sense to collect football cards.

Look for the rest of my posts on this topic this week.
