Matt Ryan Rookie Card: How could we have predicted this success?
How could we have predicted Matt Ryan's success in the NFL? As a fan and a card collector, it can both be fun, exciting, and profitable if we can predict the success of a player prior to them entering the NFL. This year the best rookies in the NFL on offense appear to be Chris Johnson from Tennessee and Matt Ryan, QB Atlanta Falcons. No one predicted Ryan's early success - however most predicted that he would be long term success.
To get a glimpse of why Ryan has had such an enormous impact on the NFL, we need to look at his career in college. Here are some of the key reasons:
1) he played for a major Division I college program. While not super important, more great quaterbacks have come from big time programs than not.
2) he took amazing strides in college to become a great QB. In his last 3 years in school his yards completed went from 1500 his sophomore season, to 3000 his JR season and over 4500 yards in his senior season with an amazing 31 tds.
3) Has the physical skill and tools. At 6-5 and 220 pounds it is the prototype for the modern day NFL quaterback.
4) He went to a situation with a fairly balanced attack. With Michael Turner in the backfield and Roddy White at WR, Ryan has a lot of weapons to work with.
5) Intangibles. Every scout, player and coach said he has it! Take a look at a game earlier in the season on a crucial 4-20 play he was poised and fired a complete ball to the WR for a completion and eventually won the game.
Matt Ryan rookie card is bound to be a very high valued card. This player has the makeup of a future Hall of Fame player.
