Phillip Rivers is the epitome of someone who needs to put his money where his mouth his. Put up, or shut up. Walk the talk.

Since coming into the league and stepping in as the leader of the Chargers passing attack, Phillip Rivers has been known for spouting his mouth off at opposing players, and containing a sensational delight for chatter. He confessed in an interview with FOX Sports that it is just part of his competitive nature, and so far it definitely has not hurt his career.

By the end of the 2009 season, despite the heartbreaking playoff loss to the New York Jets, Phillip Rivers has displayed plenty of reasons to follow up that chatter.

Try his career quarterback passer rating on for size. If you thought that Rivers wouldn’t shut up before he solidified his statistics, his 95.8 career passer rating is second all-time in NFL history to only Steve Young.

All-time? If that’s the case then maybe no one will be able to get Rivers to shut up.

But a passer rating isn’t everything. The true test of success in the NFL revolves around the team concept, and how successful the team is that he is directing. Enough said, his winning percentage at QB is .719, which is 2nd among active quarterbacks to only future NFL Hall of Fame QB Tom Brady.

How many wins do the San Diego Chargers have in the past 4 seasons? 49 combined wins for both the regular season and playoffs. An astonishing number for a 4th year starting quarterback who still has a bright future. His 2009 season was lauded as his best so far as a professional, while also sporting a 104.4 QB rating that proves that Rivers isn’t content with the status quo, but intends to keep improving his craft.

With that, Rivers knows that there is room for improvement, most especially with his postseason record. Phillip Rivers has recorded 2 very impressive wins over the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Playoffs, but the biggest disappointment is how the Chargers were unable to overcome the New York Jets in the 2010 AFC Divisional Round and set up a rematch with the Indianapolis Colts.

Needless to say, there was a collective relief in Indianapolis when the Jets knocked Phillip Rivers and the Chargers out of the playoffs. While the Chargers have failed to win the big game, their chances of making a Super Bowl run are very much alive with the emergence of Phillip Rivers.

The Philip Rivers rookie card is one that looks to grow stronger as he continues to build on his already successful career.

Watching football this year brings up this question again. Who is better: Peyton Manning or Tom Brady? Without question these are the two best quarterbacks of this generation and perhaps all generations. The names like Marino, Elway, Montana, and Bradshaw come to mind as soon as you think of Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.

Anyway you look at these two quarterbacks many of the same things pop up as similar between the two. Lets look at stats - both are gaudy. Manning has consistently put up stats that are not matched by anyone in history. However, look at the talent around him since he was a rookie. He has always had the likes of Marivn Harrison and now reggie Wayne to throw the ball at. Tom Brady didnt have those types of stats until he got Randy Moss and Wes Welker to throw to. The year Brady added those weapons, he threw for 50 touchdowns breaking Peyton Manning's record of 48 touchdowns.

If you look at intangilbes - both of these quarterbacks possess those as well. Both are freakishly accurate at throwing the ball. Brady probably has a stronger arm, but Peyton may be the most accurate passer I have ever seen. Peyon Manning this year is so accurate that it almost looks like he is playing in slow motion compared to everyone else. Brady is recovering from a knee injury and now is starting to look like he did in 2007 when all records were broken. If you ask the question who do you want with the ball to come from behind and win a game. Who do you choose? The guy who has more 4th quarter comebacks in the league other than Farve or the guy who led a team on a drive with a minute left to take the lead in the superbowl and by the way is number 2 in fourth quarter comebacks.

Lastly you look at championship pedigree. Brady has 3 rings and played in 4 superbowls and Manning has 1 ring. However, Brady's teams had perhaps the best defense in the league for a decade making Tom's job easier.

If you ask me you cannot choose they are the two best of this generation. If I had to pick I would pick Peyton Manning. Something about how he carries himself on the field that says there is no way my team is losing. His accuracy and competitiveness are uncanny. All I know is as long as the Patriots and Colts have these two quarterbacks they will always be a thread to win a superbowl.

In the past three decades it is been proven that the key to winning a superbowl is drafting a great rookie quarterback. The reason why so many teams spend so many first round draft picks on a quarterback is that all of the team general managers know that without a quarterback the odds are significantly stacked against winning a superbowl. The only team that has won a superbowl with a “average” quarterback was the 2002 Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens were an anomaly because they had a once in a lifetime defense. The strength of their defense was able to overcome and shortcomings of their quarterback position.

What is missing from many people who have made this argument is that sometimes the superbowl propels the young quarterback to greatness. If you look at the last ten years quarterbacks like Tom Brady and Eli Manning have used the superbowl victory to propel their careers on to greatness. This is a first of a series of posts related to this topic.

Rookie cards: football or baseball which is better and which should you own. Their is no question that baseball cards from years past were worth more than the old football cards. If you look at the values of the superstars of the 1970's and 1980's, the baseball cards like Tom Seaver, Nolan Ryan, Pete Rose are all worth significantly more than the football cards of the same era.

However, the rookie football cards of today are worth every bit as much as the rookie baseball cards. The superstars like Tom Brady, Ladanian Tomlinson, Adrian Peterson and the rising superstar Matt Ryan are some of the highest value rookie cards on the market today. If you are collecting cards to appreciate in value it only stands to reason that the most popular league in all of sports the NFL would have the highest price rookie cards. Every year the NFL produces several new superstars that all have phenominal rookie cards including autograph cards and jersey cards. In a world where most investments are doing poorly the investment in a great hobby can hae great financial reward as well.
